Targa

Construction

For every Theon Design commission, state-of-the-art digital design techniques are blended with traditional hand-craftsmanship. Using the Porsche 911 (964 series) as its base, Theon combines OEM-level design, quality and manufacturing techniques with an obsessive attention to detail. In order to build cars to the tightest tolerances, each component is digitised and modelled in 3D design software. This approach maximises precision and panel fit – and also gives Theon the flexibility to ensure each car is unique, enabling it to attune details to an individual’s specification.

Design

The digital, ground-up design and modelling process enables Theon to carefully tailor each commission, working collaboratively with a customer to deliver a completely individual creation. The personalisation potential offered extends throughout each bespoke creation, from mechanical specification and exterior details, to the beautifully appointed interiors. The entire look of the car has been inspired by Porsche’s back catalogue of design, from the body shape inspired by the early RS and ST models – available either in lightweight carbon fibre or traditional hand-crafted steel – to the turbo-look exhausts and 991 Speedster concept-style machined aluminium mirrors.

Where precision meets beauty

Paying homage to Porsche’s heritage, methodology and engineering ethos, Theon Design distils and enhances the essence of the air-cooled 911, while incorporating modern innovations that lift performance into a new realm. Theon utilises lightweight materials such as carbon fibre and kevlar to reduce weight and improve driving dynamics making each car lighter, more powerful and even more visceral to drive.

Enhanced Approach

“With our use of 3D modelling we can apply a forensic approach to enhancements throughout the car – even with components hidden far from view – they’re all equally important to us. The carefully considered, incremental changes made throughout add up to a make a significant difference, delivering an ultra-responsive, highly sophisticated driving experience. It’s the manifestation of our ‘purity of purpose’ approach, which really does set us apart, and elevate the cars we build.” – Adam Hawley, Theon Design Founder.

The heart of the matter

Theon offers customers a choice of three ultra-responsive, high-performance naturally aspirated engines in 3.6, 3.8 and 4.0-litre configurations. There is also the opportunity for forced induction through supercharging or turbocharging.

Modern comforts

For each Theon Design commission, every detail of the interior is design-led, devised in close collaboration with the owner. Theon uses the highest quality materials to elevate and enhance the cabin, taking design cues from early 911s. The ultimate feel of each painstakingly assembled cabin is one of carefully honed luxury – marrying the finest leathers with light-weight carbon fibre components, combined with tactile aluminium switchgear and restyled instruments, reminiscent of the dials on early 911s. The interior of each entirely bespoke Theon Design commission delivers the charm with of a classic Porsche, allied with modern quality, comfort and convenience.

Driving in technicolour

The Theon Design Targa is an analogue classic 911 that mixes the sensory richness of open-top motoring with razor-sharp handling and visceral, modern ‘OEM+’ performance.

Each entirely bespoke Targa build, based on a 964-donor car, is executed with Theon’s customary obsessive attention to detail and laser-focused engineering rigour. A Theon Design Targa offers the best of both worlds: the rigidity and handling precision of a coupe, with the added sensory rush of a convertible.

Motorsport Derived Carbon Strengthening

To ensure the open-top Targa drives with signature Theon fluidity and control, the team has developed a system of bespoke carbon fibre strengthening ‘tubs’, which are bonded to the floor of the chassis. The elegant, lightweight solution uses the same carbon construction technology deployed in F1 and other forms of elite-level motorsport, transforming structural rigidity without adding undue weight.

Open top thrills without compromise

The carbon strengthening results in a stable, exceptionally rigid platform. Thanks to this super torsionally strong base, the Targa drives with the signature handling precision of Theon’s celebrated Coupe commissions. The Theon Targa blends sheer modern sophistication with precision, boasting an immense range of dynamic capabilities. These can be further enhanced with the optional, switchable, five-stage TracTive Active Controlled Electronics (ACE) damping system. Tailored specifically for each Targa build, this system delivers exceptional body control and dynamic polish whatever the driving scenario, roof on or off.

Refined Design

As with all Theon Design commissions, Hawley – leveraging his background in OEM car design – has obsessed over every aesthetic detail to deliver a cohesive, perfectly formed Porsche 911 Targa shape. Drawing on classic and contemporary Targa styling cues, Hawley and team have delivered a timeless open-top design that is simultaneously purposeful and pretty.
The Targa’s removeable roof is also totally overhauled to dramatically improve both sound insulation and durability. When removed, the roof folds away into a beautifully trimmed carry case, which fits neatly into the 911’s ‘frunk’.
